Anodyne, diuretic, demulcent, antispasmodic, vulnerary, stringent, emollient, pectoral
For asthma, burn root and inhale fumes. A tea of the leaves is useful in asthma, croup, bronchitis, all lung ailments, bleeding from lungs, difficult breathing, and hay fever. Good for gargle. Hot tea is good applied to mumps, tumours, sore throat, excellent for dropsy, sinusitis, swollen joints. One ounce boiled in a pint of water or soy milk, one – half teacupful after each bowel movement for diarrhea. Fomentations good for prostate swellings, swellings of any kind, bad sores. A syrup made with mullein leaves good for irritating coughs. Also good for used in liniments. Poultice of mullein, lobelia and black cohosh will give relief in neuralgia. Ointment of mullein for hemorrhoids as well as the tea taken internally . fresh leaves in vinegar also a good application to mumps and other swellings. For bad colds, drink hot on retiring.
