Vomiting
Definition:
Vomiting is a forceful discharge of stomach contents. Vomiting can be a one-time event linked to something that doesnt settle right in the stomach. Recurrent vomiting may be attributed to numerous underlying medical conditions. Frequent vomiting may also lead to dehydration. This is a potentially deadly condition when left untreated.
Signs & Symptoms:
Symptoms that occur with nausea and vomiting include abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, lightheadedness, vertigo, rapid pulse, excessive sweating, dry mouth, and decreased urination. Serious symptoms that can occur with nausea and vomiting include chest pain, abdominal pain, fainting, confusion, excessive sleepiness, and vomiting blood.
Cause:
Vomiting is common. Eating too much food or alcohol can make a person throw up. This generally isnt a cause for concern. Vomiting itself is not a condition, but rather a symptom of other conditions. Some common causes of this symptom include:
food poisoning
indigestion
infections (associated with bacterial and viral illnesses)
motion sickness
pregnancy-related morning sickness
headaches
prescription medications
anesthesia
chemotherapy
Crohns disease
Frequent vomiting not related to any of these causes may be a symptom of cyclic vomiting syndrome. This condition is characterized by vomiting for up to 10 days at a time. It is usually coupled with nausea and extreme lack of energy. It mainly occurs during childhood.
How To Cure:
- Ginger
Ginger is good for your digestive system and works as a natural anti-emetic to prevent vomiting.
Mix one teaspoon each of ginger juice and lemon juice and consume it several times a day.
Alternatively, try some ginger tea with a little honey or eat some fresh ginger slices with or without honey.
- Rice Water
Rice water helps alleviate vomiting, especially when it is caused by gastritis. While preparing rice water, use white rice not brown rice as it is rich in starch and easier to digest.
Boil a cup of rice in one to one and a half cup of water.
Strain the solution.
Drink this rice water.
- Cinnamon
Cinnamon, also called dalchini, helps calm the stomach and treat nausea and vomiting caused by digestive problems.
In a cup of boiling water, add one-half or one teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If you do not have the powder, simply use a cinnamon stick.
Allow it to steep for a few minutes and then strain the water.
Optionally, add one tablespoon of honey.
Sip it slowly.
Note: This remedy may not be suitable for pregnant women.
