Aromatic, stimulant, stomachic, carminative. Oil is stimulant and rubefacient.
Excellent for chills, fevers, gas on stomach, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cholera, heart trouble, ‘flu and cods, and hysteria. Applied externally (the oil) for rheumatism, neuralgia and headache. Peppermint enemas are excellent in cholera and colon trouble, convulsions and spasms in infants. Helpful in cases of insanity. Hot, strong peppermint tea will restore one after fainting or dizzy spells. Good for griping from eating unripe fruit or irritating foods. Strengthens heart muscles. Cleanses and strengthens the entire body. Use a hot peppermint tea in place of aspirin for headache. Take a cupful of the hot tea, lie down for a while and relax and your headache will be gone strengthens the nerves. Taken with meals, will assist digestion. Use a few drops of the essence in water if leaves are not on hand. The oil is also used for toothache. Also used in flavoring. A protection against seasickness.
