Important and Necessary Principles of First Aid
- Assess the situation quickly and take measures indicated as life saving first.
- Place a bed sheet, blanket, or newspapers under the victim placed on the ground to reduce loss of body.
- Avoid unnecessary movement of handling except to remove the victim from additional danger.
- Reassure the patient that everything will be all right.
- Prevent shock.
- Do not give anything orally if the victim is likely to require an anesthetic for surgery soon.
- Do not transport patients except for a life saving measure until first aid has been completed.
- Get professional and nonprofessional personnel, equipment, and supplies as close to the scene of the disaster as possible.
