Nitric acid Fumes Poisoning
It is used extensively in chemical laboratories and industry. Corrosive fumes produce effects on the respiratory tract. The mucous membrane is swollen.
The condition is diagnosed by the following features.
- The victim choker, coughs, and gasps.
- There is a sensation of tightness in the chest.
- Pulmonary edema may be present.
- The victim may be in shock.
First Aid
- Remove the victim from the fumes immediately.
- Remove clothes if they are contaminated.
- Maintain good ventilation.
- Administer oxygen under pressure using a mask if possible.
- Give analgesics for pain.
