Medicinal uses of Althea in Diarrhea and Dysentery

Althea: Althea Officinalis, Mallow Family, marshmallow 

 

Part used: Root

Emollient, demulcent, pain – soothing

As a douche for irritation of the vagina. Bathing inflamed eyes. In making poultices. Irrigate diarrhea or dysentery. Dried root may be chewed and the saliva swallowed for soothing inflamed bladder or kidneys and all mucous membranes.
