What are the aims of first aid?

  1. To save life.
  2. To prevent deterioration of the condition further injury.
  3. To prevent conditions that might increase the injury
  4. To as pain.
  5. To make the victim as comfortable as possible.
  6. To make proper medical care available as early as possible.
  7. To arrange for transportation to the hospital.

Assessment of the- Observe what has happened quickly and calmly.

Situation-looks for dangers to yourself and the victim.

Make the area safe – protect the victim from danger. Be aware of your limitations.

Assess all victims and – Treat those with life-threatening condition first.

Give first aid

Get help –Quickly ensure that all specialist help summoned is on the way.

What are the principles of first aid?

The general principles of first aid are as follows.

  1. One should be in control, both of oneself and the problem.
  2. One should be gentle but firm, calm and logical.
  3. One should speak to the victim kindly but purposefully and reassuringly.
  4. One should build up rapport while handling to the victim.
  5. One should explain fully what one plans to do.
  6. One should give honest answers rather than give misinformation.
  7. One should not let the victim be alone and unattended at any time.
  8. One should not separate a child from its parents or guardian.
  9. One should send the victim to a doctor or hospital by quickest means.
  10. One should inform the relatives of the seriousness of the problem.
  11. One should inform police about Serious accidents.

 

What are the qualities of a person giving first aid?

  1. One should be a good observer _able to note the cause and effects of the injury,
  2. He should be able to act quickly.
  3. He should not panic or get excited at a critical time.
  4. One should be resourceful, able to use whatever things ar available.
  5. One should be able to reassure the apprehensive victim and his relatives one should be clear in his instructions to the victim, his relatives, and the onlookers.
  6. One should be able to control the crowd.

   7.One should be able to obtain help from onlookers as required, e.g. for directing      traffic, making phone calls, turning off electricity or gas etc.

  1. In case there are multiple injuries, one should have the ability to judge injuries to be managed first.

What are the responsibilities of a first aider

  1. Gaining access to the patient in safest and easiest way.
  2. Assessment of the situation quickly such as finding out weather casualty is unconscious, conscious, alive-or-dead
  3. Identificationof the injury or the nature of illness affecting of victim.
  4. Giving early and adequate treatment in a sensible order
  5. Arranging of removal of the casualty to hospital or the clinic of a doctor.

Remaining with a casualty until handing him over to the care of a doctor.

What are the things to be avoided by the first aider?

  1. Forgetting that he is not a doctor.
  2. Handling the victim unnecessarily.
  3. Moving a patient unnecessarily.
  4. Removing clothing unnecessarily.
  5. Examining wounds by opening which have already bandaged by someone else.
  6. Moving a patient with a fracture or fracture 1Mtil splints have been applied.
  7. Neglecting shock.
  8. Failing to give artificial respiration when needed.
  9. Reducing dislocations, except of the finger
  10. Burning a patient with a hot water bottle or other heated.
  11. Failing to remove false teeth, tobacco or any eatable from the mouth of an unconscious.
  12. Permitting air to reach a burned surface.
  13. Laving a tourniquet on over 20 minutes without loose-ling.
  14. Putting oneself at risk by attempting heroic measures in difficult situations.
  15. Acquiring communicable diseases from the victim.
  16. Declaring the victim to dead.
